SKGV home was founded by Cheong Yoke Choy and Liew Weng Chee during colonial times, to support Chinese females immigrants who migrated from China to work in Malaya in the early 1930’s. The original intention was to provide shelter for poor and aged Chinese women who found sleeping along five-foot-ways in the late 1930s. (Source : Wikipedia)

SKGV is now home to many aged females from 65 and above who are homeless with no dependents but are capable of taking care of themselves. The welfare of residents including the groceries, medical aids and consumables are donated by the public.

Many activities are being carried out e.g. planting of vegetables by the residents, exercises including Qigong to keep them active. The home was frequently visited by Volunteer groups to provide free health screening and check ups. Often, talks or counselling sessions are organised for the residents.
