Assisi Palliative Care Berhad (ASPAC) is a charitable organization dedicated to providing free professional palliative care services to the community. Located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia, ASPAC aims to enhance the quality of life for patients and their families by delivering skilled and compassionate palliative care to alleviate symptoms and suffering.
Established in 2015, ASPAC operates as a company limited by guarantee without a share capital. While a significant portion of their referrals originates from public hospitals, they primarily serve adult patients with advanced cancer. However, there is a growing number of referrals for patients with non-cancer illnesses such as Motor Neurone Disease, Advanced Dementia, and End-Stage Organ Failure. Additionally, ASPAC has been receiving more referrals for pediatric palliative care, reflecting their expanding scope.
The ASPAC team comprises two doctors, four nurses, a counsellor, a dispenser, and dedicated volunteers. They strive to address the physical, emotional, spiritual, and practical needs of their patients. ASPAC also offers medical equipment loan services, providing items like hospital beds, oxygen concentrators, and wheelchairs, along with medication supplies when available.
ASPAC conducts periodic training programs for healthcare professionals, volunteers, and the community. They place a strong emphasis on continuous professional development to ensure their staff can deliver comprehensive and skilled palliative care.
Whenever possible, ASPAC accepts medical students and undergraduates from various universities and colleges for short attachment postings. Their medical advisors are senior Palliative Medicine consultants from the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), Kuala Lumpur, a premier teaching hospital for both undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Malaya. ASPAC’s unwavering commitment is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve through palliative care.
Assisi Palliative Care Berhad (ASPAC) merupakan sebuah pertubuhan amal yang komited untuk menyediakan perkhidmatan penjagaan paliatif profesional secara percuma kepada masyarakat. Terletak di Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia, ASPAC bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualiti kehidupan pesakit dan keluarga mereka dengan memberikan penjagaan paliatif yang terlatih dan penyayang untuk mengurangkan simptom dan penderitaan.
Ditubuhkan pada tahun 2015, ASPAC beroperasi sebagai sebuah syarikat yang terhad oleh jaminan tanpa modal saham. Walaupun sebahagian besar rujukan mereka datang dari hospital-hospital awam, mereka terutamanya berkhidmat kepada pesakit dewasa dengan kanser peringkat lanjut. Walau bagaimanapun, terdapat peningkatan jumlah rujukan untuk pesakit yang menghidap penyakit bukan kanser seperti Penyakit Neuron Motor, Demensia Peringkat Lanjut, dan Kegagalan Organ Peringkat Akhir. Selain itu, ASPAC juga menerima lebih banyak rujukan untuk penjagaan paliatif kanak-kanak, yang mencerminkan perkembangan skop mereka.
Pasukan ASPAC terdiri daripada dua orang doktor, empat orang jururawat, seorang kaunselor, seorang pengedar, dan sukarelawan yang berdedikasi. Mereka berusaha untuk mengendalikan keperluan fizikal, emosi, spiritual, dan praktikal pesakit mereka. ASPAC juga menawarkan perkhidmatan pinjaman peralatan perubatan, menyediakan perkara seperti katil hospital, pengkonsentrasi oksigen, dan kerusi roda, serta bekalan ubat apabila tersedia.
ASPAC mengadakan program latihan berkala untuk profesional kesihatan, sukarelawan, dan masyarakat. Mereka menekankan pembangunan profesional berterusan untuk memastikan kakitangan mereka dapat memberikan penjagaan paliatif yang komprehensif dan terlatih.
Apabila dimungkinkan, ASPAC menerima pelajar perubatan dan siswazah dari pelbagai universiti dan kolej untuk tempoh latihan pendek. Penasihat perubatan mereka adalah perunding Perubatan Paliatif kanan dari Pusat Perubatan University Malaya (UMMC), Kuala Lumpur, sebuah hospital pengajar utama untuk pelajar peringkat ijazah dan siswazah di Universiti Malaya. Komitmen ASPAC yang teguh adalah untuk membuat perbezaan bermakna dalam kehidupan mereka yang dilayani melalui penjagaan paliatif.
